Romney Does NOT Support Same-Sex Marriage

While President Obama was telling the citizens of the United States that he supports marriage equality for same-sex couples, the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, was reaffirming his lack of support.

in an interview with a Denver television station, Romney said:

“My view is the same as it’s been from the beginning,” Romney said. “I don’t favor civil unions if it’s identical to marriage, and I don’t favor marriage between people of the same gender.”

Ah, there you have it.

Romney PAC Funds NOM

If you need yet another reason not to vote for Romney, here it is:

Mitt Romney’s PAC Funded Anti-Gay Marriage Group Under The Radar [Huffington Post]

According to the article, Romney’s political action committee made a $10,000 donation to the National Organization of Marriage (NOM) when the anti-gay rights organization was pushing to repeal the California law legalizing marriage equality. Worse, it was done cloak and dagger style. Be sure to read the article.

Romney Supports ‘Gay Rights’ but Not Gay Marriage

Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney responded to the Obama administrations claims that he has flip-flopped on his position concerning same-sex marriage.  Romney told the Nashua Telegraph:

“I’m in favour of traditional marriage. I oppose same-sex marriage. At the same time, I don’t believe in discriminating in employment or opportunity for gay individuals.

“So I favour gay rights. I do not favour same-sex marriage. That has been my position all along.”

Romney signed the National Organization for Marriage’s pledge to support a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage.

He has also criticized the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

More on the Absurd “Marriage Vow” Pledge

I posted Wednesday on presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann’s eagerness to sign the discriminatory marriage vow pledge … although, what can you expect from someone who believes you can cure homosexuality through prayer?  (Excuse me while I smack my head into the wall).

Thankfully, others find the marriage vow thing just a tad insulting …

Mitt Romney is the first Republican presidential candidate to refuse to sign the pledge:

Read:  Mitt Romney refuses to sign controversial Family Leader ‘Marriage Vow,’ unlike Bachmann, Santorum

Former New Mexico governor and presidential candidate Gary Johnson stated:

“While the Family Leader pledge covers just about every other so-called virtue they can think of, the one that is conspicuously missing is tolerance. In one concise document, they manage to condemn gays, single parents, single individuals, divorcees, Muslims, gays in the military, unmarried couples, women who choose to have abortions and everyone else who doesn’t fit in a Norman Rockwell painting.”

Read:  Gary Johnson Calls Family Leader Pledge “Offensive and Unrepublican”

Republican presidential candidate, Herman Cain, isn’t signing the offensive pledge.

Read:   Herman Cain Not Signing ‘Marriage Vow’ Either

Here’s an excerpt of The Marriage Vow:

Therefore, in any elected or appointed capacity by which I may have the honor of serving our fellow citizens in these United States, I the undersigned do hereby solemnly vow* to honor and to cherish, to defend and to uphold, the Institution of Marriage as only between one man and one woman.

Candidates vow to do so by their:

Vigorous opposition to any redefinition of the Institution of Marriage — faithful monogamy between one man and one woman – through statutory-, bureaucratic-, or court-imposed recognition of intimate unions which are bigamous, polygamous, polyandrous, same-sex, etc.

Earnest, bona fide legal advocacy for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) at the federal and state levels.

Steadfast embrace of a federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which protects the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman in all of the United States.

If you haven’t read the The Marriage Vow, you may do so here.   Scary stuff, folks.
