Ben & Jerry’s Celebrates Gay Marriage in Vermont with “Hubby Hubby” Ice Cream

Ben and Jerrys Gay ice creamBen & Jerry’s, the ice cream maker based in Burlington, Vermont, has renamed its “Chubby Hubby” ice cream as “Hubby Hubby” for the next month, in partnership with Freedom to Marry. The move is B & J’s way of celebrating gay marriage in Vermont and raising social awareness. Only six company-owned Scoop Shops in Vermont will feature the special ice cream and B & J does not have plans for releasing it nationally at this time.

The package depicts two grooms atop a wedding cake with a rainbow shining down on them. Cudos to Ben and Jerry’s for their support of gay marriages.

Vermont made history in 2000 as the first State to provide legal recognition of same-sex couples when it passed its civil union law. It also made history again this Spring when it won marriage equality entirely through its legislature. Same-sex couples began marrying in Vermont on September 1, 2009.
