We Will Never Forget: September 11, 2001

911tributeI will never forget where I was on September 11, 2001 when the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. I had the day off from work and was painting my garage door. My mother came outside to tell me that there had been a horrible plane accident. That was before we all knew what had really happened. The rest of the day was a blur. I don’t believe I have ever felt so much fear or sadness.

Today, as we remember that horrible tragedy, I ask you to observe a moment of silence in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11.

The following are 9/11 tribute videos I came upon today while preparing for this post.

The first was aired by Anheuser-Busch on the first anniversary of 9/11:

Amazing Grace:

Tribute to our fallen heroes:

When the World Stopped Turning:

Bruce Springsteen — My City of Ruin:

This is Melissa Etheridge performing her tribute titled “Tuesday Morning”:

These are the lyrics to “Tuesday Morning” by Melissa Etheridge:

10:03 on a Tuesday morning
in the fall of an American dream
a man is doing what he knows is right
on flight 93

Loved his mom and he loved his dad
loved his home and he loved his man
but on that bloody Tuesday morning
he died an American

[chorus]
Now you cannot change this
You can’t erase this
You can’t pretend this is not the truth

Even though he could not marry
Or teach your children in our schools
Because who he wants to love
Is breaking your God’s rules

He stood up on a Tuesday Morning
In the terror he was brave
And he made his choice and without a doubt
A hundred lives he must have saved

[chorus]

And the things you might take for granted
Your inalienable rights
Some might choose to deny him
Even though he gave his life

Can you live with yourself in the land of the free
And make him less of a hero than the other three
Well it might begin to change ya
In a field in Pennsylvania

[chorus]

Stand up America
Hear the bell now as it tolls
Wake up America
It’s Tuesday Morning
Let’s roll

[chorus]
