Illinois Clerks Preparing for New Civil Union Licenses

As you already know, Illinois passed a civil union law that will allow gay and lesbian couples to enter into civil union on June 1, 2011.  Governor Pat Quinn will sign the legislation into law on January 31, 2011.

In preparation for that date, the clerks office is busy updating its computer programs and trying to decide if its tradition for issuing pink marriage licenses to brides and blue marriage licenses to grooms will be applied.  How cute is that?  Maybe they will just issue civil union licenses to gay and lesbian couples on rainbow paper.  That works for me.
