In the aftermath of the passage of Illinois’ civil union law, all hell broke loose with the Catholic Charities organizations that place needy children with foster parents. I posted on the subject here. Catholic Charities refused to license lesbian and gay couples united in civil unions as foster parents. Illinois Department of Child and Family Services declined to renew the contract with the diocese.
A lawsuit was ultimately filed (as if that was a shock). Yesterday, Lambda Legal joined the fight in the case known as Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Springfield-in-Illinois et al. v. Illinois et al.
