Missouri House Introduces Anti-Gay Legislation

On Thursday, Rep. Steve Cookson’s (R-Dist. 153) House Bill 2051was referred to Missouri’s Elementary and Secondary Education Committee. The text of the bill is short but not so sweet:

“Prohibits the discussion of sexual orientation in public school instruction, material, or extracurricular activity except in scientific instruction on human reproduction.”

Basically, it’s a bill to ignore the reality that LGBT people exist right along with heterosexual people and that the discussions that might be important to students will be ignored.

Come on, Missouri. Do you truly believe that by pretending LGBT people don’t exist it will make them go away?
