Same-sex couples have long expressed frustration at the difficulty in finding appropriate greeting cards for their partners for such important events as anniversaries and birthdays. Friends of the couples have expressed that same frustration when trying to find an appropriate card to congratulate the couples on their wedding or civil union.
Kudos to major retailer, Target, for recognizing this glaring problem and doing something about it. The retail giant now stocks a line of greeting cards for same-sex couples.
Kudos also to Carlton Cards, a unit of American Greetings, the company that makes the cards. This shows a serious change in the way the public relates to same-sex couples. It’s a serious step in the right direction.
Let’s see how long it takes for some anti-gay group to boycott Target. Meanwhile, take the time to write and thank the company for its non-discriminatory marketing policies.
