2010 GLBT Census Data

I love to read facts and statistics (I’m a lawyer, after all).  For instance, did you know that by city, the most same-sex couples reside in New York, NY?  According to the 2010 Census, that would be 47.000 gay couples.  Wow, that’s a lot of gay couples who reported being gay couples.  I’m sure there are hundreds more who did not.

The highest concentration of LGBT citizens by major metropolitan city, according to the same census, would be San Francisco, CA, with 15.4 percent.  That doesn’t surprise me at all — nor would it surprise me to learn that the percentage is actually quite a bit higher.

For more information, I direct you to  Gay Facts and Statistics in 2011 on Gideon Alper’s “The Gay Law Report” blog.

After the 2010 push for GLBT citizens to ‘come out, come out, wherever you are’ and report their identities on the census, I’m sure that when those results are finally compiled, we’ll learn that there are more GLBT families out there.
